Pele's Chair/ Alan Davis Hike

I was so stoked to hear my friend Tarah and her fiance had moved back home for a while!.  They were suffering from freezing weather and an abundance of rude people in NY that they are loving this transition and not wasting a second of it.  Tarah's been doing this hike to AD's near Makapuu where there is a lil calm beach at the end with her adorable dogs, Rufus the Professor of Anthropology and Roxy the Highschool Cheerleader.  So since dogs are a lot like babies,  Tarah thought it would be a good idea to bring Phe.  Phe and I love doing the Makapuu Lighthouse Hike since it's nicely paved for strollers, but I was always a little iffy about 4 wheel driving down the bottom path to AD's.   It was definitely adventurous of us to bring even my all terrain stroller down a maze like path that was merely made of previous 4 wheel drivers and little ditches and rocks popping up here and there but we made it.  It was definitely worth it though, seeing the look on the dogs and Phe's face when we got there--Absolutely nobody here...no tourists, not even locals.  Beach all to ourselves with nobody to offend..a little playground for babies and dogs.  Its nice to come to a calm beach here on the East side and be able to relax a little since all you hear about is Sandy's neck breaking shore breaks and China walls and its freak sets.  I really forget how many hidden gems there are on this island and sometimes I guess it just takes someone moving back to take account of all the actual beauty that surrounds us.

Next time we know to bring 1. shoes. 2. baby bjourns or carrier for Phe.  3. Goggles for snorkeling.

Here we go, one of the many paths to the destination.

15-20 minute moderate hike, bring shoes and a baby bjourn for the babes.

Auntie T, making it look easy.

Pele's Chair..named after Pele, the Hawaiian Goddess of Fire and Volcano.
A natural formation of lava rock that sits at the top overlooking AD's
Love these two..

Finally!  Alan Davis (AD's)  named after some white dude
that bought a lot of land back in the day.

Makapuu Lighthouse Hike

I love any moderate paved hikes and since having a baby I have a really good excuse not to do strenuous crazy long-apocalyptic-stairmaster-torture hikes anymore..taking a baby on one of those hikes would be worse than taking them to happy hour with you. Makapuu Lighthouse is ideal for someone looking for a little adventure with a baby stroller..It's about a mile one way and for the first half you have an amazing view of the South East Oahu, Sandy's etc..and then for the home stretch you are rewarded with a sweeping view of the rest of the beautiful East side. The look on Phe's face when he looks at the ocean is the most precious thing..at that very moment I know that my baby was a turtle in his past life and he's lived years hundreds of years before all of us. whoo hoo! TGIF.
