Common Groundz Lovin'

Honolulu really has no café culture but we are lucky to have a cute little café called Common Grounds in walking distance from our house in Hawaii Kai. It’s right on the water and serves the best acai bowls on the island. Common Grounds is our breakfast, lunch, meeting, recovery, and overall happy spot. I’ve been coming here forever but more so now that we have lil phe phe in our lives. This is where we took Phe to the first time he left the house at 5 days old and the owners Jae and Kim have watched him grow with every little milestone. They feed him, they change him, and they even put him to sleep for me while we take a little coffee break. They have two wonderful daughters, Soo Min and Ji Min and on the weekends, the whole family works together. Soo Min is our spunky little friend and is the mascot of Common Grounds. She is very wise beyond her years and can often be seen serving up tables, pouring coffee, and chatting up customers. We adore her like she adores Phe, and love the fact that she is in no hurry to grow up unlike every prepubescent girl in America. Basically, the world would benefit from more Soo Mins. Today was a typical day at Common Grounds, where Soo Min made fun of my batman glasses as she called it, played with Phe, put him to sleep for us, and gave me tips on how I should organize myself and my life. Thanks Sooms! This post should really have been called “An Ode To Soo Min..”
